The relationship between a head coach and quarterback is one of the more important ones in the game of football. A coach needs to be able to trust his leader to make the right play or read and to adjust it as they see fit.

And a quarterback has to feel like the coach is on the same page as them, so they are confident in the plays being called. It can be a delicate dynamic between two people, but the teams with the most success on the field tend to have the best relationships.

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Brandon Staley spoke about the relationship that he has with quarterback Justin Herbert and how he has learned to trust him throughout games.

“I just trust Justin’s judgment," Staley said. "I think that’s part of being a quarterback, you have to use your judgment. It’s good to go with what you’re feeling sometimes. When you’re in the heat of competition, there are going to be some times when it gets edgy. When you’re the quarterback, there’s no one that is more responsible for more than you.”

The two men have built up respect for one another during their time with the team, and it shows in how they deal with each other. While the success on the field hasn’t always shown up, the dynamic is solid.

The Bolts have struggled at times during their tenure together, but it hasn’t been on Herbert. If anything, Staley has been overly aggressive in his decision-making, and Herbert has gone along with it. But Herbert has spoken in the past about how he appreciates having a coach who doesn’t just sit back.

The hope is that they'll be able to use that trust they have to turn things around this season. It hasn't been an easy year, but they want to make sure that they give it their all before it's too late.
