Chargers News: Brandon Staley Raves About This Young Bolt's Growth Against Bears

Quentin Johnston keeps getting better as the season goes on

Through the first eight weeks of the season, your Los Angeles Chargers have suffered some devastating injuries to its wide receiver group.

Star receiver Mike Williams is sidelined for the season with a torn ACL. With the absence of Williams, the Chargers have had to have other players step up.

This includes rookie Quentin Johnston. The first-year receiver started the season as the fourth option in a deep wide receiver room.

Now he is up to the third option and Sunday night was his best game of his career.

He set a career-high with five receptions and 50 yards.

Per Eric Smith of Chargers.com, head coach Brandon Staley praised the young wide receiver for his great play in the team's win over the Bears on Sunday Night Football.

"We wanted to get him going. I felt like we had a lot of good plays in the plan for him," Staley said of Johnston. "He made plays tonight, a lot of different types of plays. That third-down conversion on the back shoulder was huge. Got a couple of shallow crosses." (Via Chargers)

Every game that Johnston has played in so far this season, he has done better than his last.

Staley recognizes how Johnston is looking more comfortable the more he plays.

"The more he plays, the more he improves. I've told you guys that all season with him," Staley said. "I think you're seeing that. The more that he figures out how to play, you're going to see the production because he is certainly capable," Staley added. "I'm proud of how hard he's worked. You can see that he's earning the trust of the quarterback more and more. He just needs to stay on track."

Johnston will look to build off of his great performance against the Bears next week when the Chargers travel to New York to face the Jets on Monday Night Football.
