A huge reason as to why TCU was able to make it to the 2022 NCAA Championship game was because they boasted one of the best return options in college known as Derius Davis. He suited up in 14 games last season and returned the ball for over 500 yards and even recorded a touchdown.

The Los Angeles Chargers were blown away with his speed and agility in some of the more tougher situations in a game and seeing that they could pair him with fellow TCU teammates in Quentin Johnston and Max Duggan, they could not pass that chance up.

LA's special teams coordinator Ryan Ficken was super high on Davis all throughout the draft process. He  always believed that he could contribute to the team right and was more than happy when he was still on the board.

Ficken detailed the multiple aspects of Davis' game that make him stand out amongst other rookies.

"As a punt returner, with his mechanics, he does a great job," Ficken added. "Also, being a dual returner. The success that he had gives our team a lot of opportunities to go ahead and have some big plays in those return phases, which we're excited about."

Davis should get plenty of opportunities with the defense looking solid and poised to get plenty of stops this season.

Ficken also revealed that while Davis is set to be a big return option for LA, the role is not guaranteed for him off the jump.

"Like I told him going through this whole process, he has to go ahead and earn this position," Ficken said. "Nothing is going to be handed to him. We have some guys that are capable that can go ahead and do it on the roster, as well."

Davis has always been known to rise to the competition so let's see how this plays out.
