Chargers News: Ex-Patriot, Father To LA CB, Grateful Bolts Didn't Hire Bill Belichick
Former New England Patriots defensive back Asante Samuel is thrilled that your Los Angeles Chargers did not hire the head coach who helped him win two Super Bowls.
Samuel, father to Bolts cornerback Asante Samuel Jr., took his show with ex-NFL defensive end Elton Patterson on their YouTube show Say What Needs To Be Said to explain why he felt the hiring of Jim Harbaugh was better for Los Angeles.
"I had to play it off for a long time ... but the time is over now," Samuel said of the chatter regarding free agent Belichick possibly joining the club. "I did not want that to happen. Thank you, dear Lord, that did not happen... There would've been issues. He would've had situations he would've had to overcome. He would've had to start from the ground up."
The 60-year-old Harbaugh, hot off winning the College Football Playoff championship with the Michigan Wolverines, seems to be a more sensible long-term signing than the 71-year-old Belichick, whose coaching tenure with New England seemed to be hurt by his GM work for the club.
"Some of those things I don't think he would've understood how to deal with," Samuel elaborated. "You know, moving them around, putting the third string in, and playing these mind games. I don't want my son to have to deal with that, so I'm happy that coach Belichick didn't get to be the head coach [of] the L.A. Chargers."
