There are many pro's and con's to getting drafted to a franchise that is looking to contend such as the Los Angeles Chargers. Obviously, there are plenty of successful veterans to learn from, winning habits are built off the jump, and there is always the potential of a deep playoff run.

However, it also means that playing time will usually be limited. These types of teams are looking to fight for a Super Bowl for a reason and they already have guys that have proven their worth. This is no different with the Chargers as they already have some elite offensive options.

Everybody was super hyped to see Justin Herbert finally partaking in some QB workouts again after his shoulder surgery and especially throwing bombs to newly-drafted Quentin Johnston.

But thanks to the Chargers' depth chart on offense, Yahoo Sports' Matt Harmon believes that Johnston will not get any real opportunities to consistently hit the field with Herbert due to the veterans above him.

"As long as everyone is healthy, the top-three target-getters in

Los Angeles

are set. The pecking will go, in some order,

Keenan Allen

,

Mike Williams

and

Austin Ekeler

.

Given some of the holes in Johnston’s game coming into the NFL, I can’t see him pushing those three aside in almost any scenario. I’m not a huge

Josh Palmer

fan but I could even see him holding the WR3 gig for the first four games or so, with Johnston just being deployed situationally."

However, Harmon does think that the TCU product will start getting comfortable once the 2024 season rolls around.

"Johnston’s time should come in 2024 when one or both of Williams and Allen have moved off the roster. Still, he should earn more playing time and more targets from

Justin Herbert

as 2023 wears on. We see rookie receivers take a leap in the second half of their first seasons all the time. Johnston should fit into that trend."

The way I see it, Johnston just needs to make the most of every opportunity he gets.
