Chargers News: Expert Sold On Kellen Moore Bringing Herbert 1st MVP
The Los Angeles Chargers know the superstar they have on their hands right now in Justin Herbert and want to ensure he is their franchise guy long-term. They will be handing him a massive extension very soon despite no playoff success and that speaks on his greatness.
LA knows that the offensive situation has not always been ideal for Herbert and he's still been able to break multiple records in the process. Therefor, they knew what needed to be done and fired OC Tom Lombardi after a 2022 meltdown and brought in Kellen Moore after some successful seasons with the Cowboys.
Quentin Johnston was also drafted by them in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft and even though he will not have a huge role off the jump, it will be important for him to get reps in with Herbert as he will be their WR of the future.
And ESPN's Dan Grazanio loves the hiring of Moore above all else. We all knew that the Chargers' offense was lacking versatility and a proper balance of passing and running so that's what he is here for now.
Grazanio believes that Herbert will have his best season by far in 2023 and possibly even bring home a certain hardware for the first time.
"Fired in Dallas
for scoring too many points
, Moore was out of work for about 30 seconds before the Chargers snatched him up. He helped Dak Prescott become a top QB, and Herbert probably has higher-end skills overall, so it's exciting to think about Moore and Herbert working together. Over the three years he has played in the league, Herbert has ranked fourth in QBR, behind only Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen and Aaron Rodgers."
"Only those three,
Kirk Cousins
and Tom Brady have thrown more touchdown passes over that time, and only Mahomes and Brady have more passing yards. Statistically, Herbert is already one of the very best quarterbacks in the league. Any improvement at all under Moore would make him an MVP candidate."

They will prove to be quite the duo and we all should be expecting quite the year from Herbert.
