Chargers News: Fantasy Footballer Pegs LA's WR2 As A Risky Bet Against Dallas

His status in the game remains at large...
In this story:

As the Los Angeles Chargers get ready to take on the Dallas Cowboys tonight, they may be doing so without one of their prime wide receiving options. They have gotten good news on a few other player injuries, but receiver Joshua Palmer is listed as questionable with a groin injury.

But if he can play, he is a risky bet for fantasy purposes. The Bolts offense has its ups and downs, with Palmer getting the brunt of that.

The WR2 role in Los Angeles is going to be a discussion point every week; it’s just that simple. This offense has the ability to be creative and high-powered with Herbert steering the ship, a profile that makes this role worth chasing.”

If Palmer can’t go, the team will be relying on other guys to step up in this critical game. Palmer has put up 11 catches for 160 yards and one score through the first four games of the year for the Bolts.

“In Week 4 against the Raiders, per the Week 6 Cheat Sheet, Palmer played 23 more snaps than rookie Quentin Johnston and led the team with eight targets (33.3% share). He was able to pull down only three of those targets, but the nature of those looks (51.6% air-yard share) allowed him to post a team-best 77 receiving yards.”

It would also likely force the Chargers to change their game plan a little bit. Guys like Keenan Allen and rookie Quentin Johnston are going to be relied upon heavily if Palmer sits. Johnson especially will see an increased role, and he will need to take advantage of this opportunity. So, Johnson could be a good replacement for Palmer if he can’t suit up for this one.

The Chargers first-round pick from this season hasn’t done much of anything so far, but this could be his chance to make his mark. He has the skill set to be a productive receiver for this team, but he just needs to go out and show it.

Since they are supposed to be getting running back Austin Ekeler back for this game, we could see him being used more in the passing game. Ekeler can break a game open if he gets into a rhythm, and the Bolts probably want to get him back into the flow of things.

Getting the running game going will be key for the Chargers in this game, regardless of whether Palmer plays or not. They will need to take some of the pressure off the passing attack and force the Dallas defense to be on their toes each play.

Seeing what happens with Palmer on the injury report will determine everything. But with this coming down to a game-time decision, it could be tough to keep him in lineups.
