We're more than two months from when Los Angeles Chargers star Austin Ekeler requested a trade from the team. We're now in May with free agency and the NFL Draft past us, and the Bolts have yet to move or attempt to move their running back.

All signs point to Ekeler returning to the Chargers in what would be the last of a four-year deal he signed in 2020; however, a trade could still happen, and it could be an in-city one. NFL columnist for Heavy.com Lorenzo Reyna listed the Los Angeles Rams as possible suitors for the 27-year-old running back.

While it sounds promising for Bolt fans that Ekeler will be keeping the lightning on his uniform, this still sounds as if there’s the potential Ekeler could be moved — which is where the Rams can come in and where the Rams can work their past connection with former defensive coordinator Brandon Staley to pull this one off.

If traded, the Chargers would want to move him out of the conference, but not out to the out-of-conference team that they share the same stadium with. The Rams could use the Brando Satley connection, but even that wouldn't hold with the front office and the fans. Imagine losing their star running back and seeing him thrive in the same city; I don't think the team could live with themselves if that were done.

The Rams would be consuming a ton of money, something they've tried to get away from as they owed a ton of money to star players like Jalen Ramsey, who they traded in March.

The Bolts wouldn't pull the trigger on this, and the Rams can't afford it. Ekeler will be in LA, wearing powder blue, of course.
