Chargers News: Importance of LA's Season Opener Vs Miami Dolphins
The NFL schedule was released last Thursday, and your Los Angeles Chargers finally know when they'll play their 2023 opponents. The Bolts are coming into 2023 with high expectations and are tied for a season-high six primetime games. A ton will be riding on the Chargers this season, and that will all kick off September 10th at Sofi Stadium against AFC East opponent Miami Dolphins.
The first game of the season is important and the game every single team and fan base is looking forward to. That's no different for the Chargers, and NFL columnist Will Noltie lists it as one of the Chargers' most important games this season.
For better or for worse, Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa have been drawn into a war of attrition – at least off the field, anyway. Neither team nor quarterback has any particular personal rivalry with each other, but thanks in part to warring fans and Emmanuel Acho, there is going to be some degree of comparison following these two for a while (assuming Tagovailoa can stay healthy and in the league, anyway).
The last time these two teams met late in the season last year, the Chargers played one of their most complete games of the year, but the defense shone in particular, locking down the wide receiver duo of Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle. Now in 2023, the Chargers have improved their arsenal a little, but the Dolphins look to be improved on defense as well.
Given that this is the season opener, whoever wins this is going to set the tone for the early part of the season.(Via NFL)
The first game is the best opportunity to start your season 1-0 and set the tone early for the type of team you're aiming to be for the rest of the season. The Bolts took on the Dolphins last season in Sofi Stadium during a Week 11 thriller win, 23-17.
The Justin Herbert-Tua Tagovailoa dynamic will always be linked one way or another because they were drafted in the same draft class, and Tua was taken over Herbert. Los Angeles will look to start the season 1-0 in front of their home fans and make their mark in the season.
