Chargers News: Jim Harbaugh Sure Sounds Like He May Stay At Michigan
Over the last week or so, the rumors about University of Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh leaving to come back to the NFL have gained steam. Harbaugh has been at Michigan since 2015 and hasn't coached in the NFL since the end of the 2014 season.
He has been rumored to be atop the list for multiple NFL teams that have head coaching openings, including the Los Angeles Chargers. Harbaugh is likely the best available coach on the market, and his coming to the Bolts would be electric.
However, after Michigan won the College Football Playoff on Monday (a 34-13 decimation of the Washington Huskies), Harbaugh made some comments that seemed to sound like he may be staying in Ann Arbor. Harbaugh mentioned spring practice dates, and that they would be moving them back this coming season.
After winning a national title with his alma mater this week, it may be hard to pry Harbaugh from Michigan. He has loved his time there and has said in the past that he wants to remain at the college level.
The NFL doesn't have an appeal for coaches, but Harbaugh may not be willing to make the jump again. He is solid at Michigan and may want to go defend the title next season with the Wolverines.
Despite all the reporting coming out, it was always a long shot for Harbaugh to leave Michigan. He has built them into a powerhouse and finally got his title.
This is his dream situation, and even the NFL may not be able to take that away from him. Of course, even these comments could be leverage from Harbaugh, and maybe he just got caught up in the moment of winning the championship.
But this should make potential NFL teams hesitant at the very least. Let the fun of the NFL offseason begin!
