Chargers News: Jim Harbaugh Targeting NaVorro Bowman For Defensive Coaching Position
Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh has been putting together his new coaching staff for the past week, and it contains some heavy hitters like Jesse Minter (DC), Greg Roman (OC), and Marcus Brady (PGC).
In one of the more shocking moves, Harbaugh is now targeting a former NFL player in his coaching search. Even more shocking is the player is NaVorro Bowman, a former and legendary linebacker who played for Harbaugh when he was head coach of the San Francisco 49ers.
Bowman may not have a ton of coaching experience, but he was serving as a defensive consultant at Maryland.
That defensive mindset is enough for Harbaugh to want to bring Bowman in as the new linebackers coach of the Chargers. Bowman will have some huge insight to impart on the players considering he was part of one of the best defenses the NFL has ever seen.
Ian Rapoport reported the move, and his tweet indicates that Bowman and the Chargers are set to strike s deal to bring him on as part of their coaching staff.
The Charger's pass rush was nonexistent apart from Khalil Mack bringing in 17 sacks on the season. Sadly, Joey Bosa injured his foot and did not contribute towards the latter half of the season.
Bringing in Bowman might also result in Mack wanting to stick around, as he would learn from one of the greats.
