Chargers News: Keenan Allen Reveals Why He Didn't Take Pay Cut That Led to Bears Trade
Former Los Angeles Charger star wide receiver Keenan Allen opened up about being traded to the Chicago Bears in his introductory press conference. When the trade was first announced, it came as a shock to many.
However, after more information came out, it made more sense why the team decided to move on from their franchise player. Allen was reportedly unwilling to take a pay cut, so the team decided to move him.
Allen revealed why he didn't take the pay cut from the Bolts, even if it would have meant staying with the only team he had ever known.
"There really was no emotion, it was, I'm not doing it," he said. "I'm not doing it. Came off my best season, so it's not happening."

Allen put together an incredible season last year, so we can't blame him here. The Chargers restructured contracts with defensive stars Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack, but Allen wasn't willing to do the same.
It's unfortunate that it even had to come to this reality, but the new regime in Los Angeles has been deadset on creating a better cap situation for the Bolts. Losing Allen is tough on this franchise, as he has meant so much to them and the fanbase.
But the Bolts are looking ahead to the future, trying to build a consistent winner. Allen was a big price to pay, but the future does seem brighter in Los Angeles under new head coach Jim Harbaugh.
