Chargers News: Kellen Moore Taking Whole New Approach with LA's 2023 Offense

Look for a new offense for LA!
In this story:

When the Chargers left the field in Jacksonville after blowing a massive lead in the AFC Wild Card game last season, many believed that head coach Brandon Staley had coached his last game in LA. But the team decided to retain Staley and bring in a new offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore to help navigate some of the offensive issues that plagued this team last season.

So far through the summer, it seems that the offense will look different from years past. Senior Writer Eric Smith from Chargers.com spoke with Chargers Passing Game Specialist Tom Arch about the new look offense.

"It's been awesome. Kellen has had a really great approach coming in. The Chargers have had a lot of success on offense under Justin, so Kellen has done a really good job of all the things that have been so successful here and really trying to integrate that into what his philosophy is. He does bring a different philosophy and a different approach but I think it's going to be really good for us."

Moore used a two-running back system during his time with the Dallas Cowboys so you'd expect the Chargers to see more of that scheme going forward. It would make sense too for them to utilize that with Austin Ekeler and Joshua Kelley, giving Ekeler more of a rest at times during the season.

Arch spoke more about the offense ideas going forward:

"I feel he's gotten our offense off to a really great start. He puts our concepts into families and has just helped everybody come together and learn the system together. The other side that he's spent just as much time on is building relationships and camaraderie and the connection we all have together. When you get everyone working in the same direction for the same goal, great things can happen."

So the Chargers offense may look a little different next season, at least scheme wise. But this should be for the better. LA hopefully won't have as many lapses and inconsistency as the season goes on while they look to make a potential run at the Super Bowl.
