Chargers News: Khalil Mack Persistent With Season On Fritz
Your Los Angeles Chargers may be sporting a paltry 5-9 record for the 2023 season and without their Pro Bowl quarterback or wide receiver this weekend, but that hasn't dissuaded Pro Bowl edge rusher Khalil Mack, one of the few bright spots for the club's defense, from an optimistic approach to the end of the year.
At least, not publicly.
Per Jeff Miller of The Los Angeles Times, the club is trying its darnedest to recuperate from a miserable 63-21 defeat against the Las Vegas Raiders last Thursday, a loss so horrific it prompted team owner Dean Spanos to instantly wash his hands of both head coach Brandon Staley and team president Tom Telesco.
Smith, Staley's replacement for now, explains that the Bolts have “flushed that game.” Spanos swapped in JoJo Wooden for Telesco.
The club has three contests left on its regular season schedule, and seems a surefire bet to miss the playoffs.
“All of that starts between you and you, your why,” Mack said. “It’s gotta be bigger than the game. As a competitor, you gotta have a natural knack for wanting to win no matter the circumstances.”
Without aforementioned QB1 Justin Herbert or five-time Pro Bowl wideout Keenan Allen, and sporting one of the worst defenses in football on the other end, that's going to be exceedingly difficult to do.
But, you know, good luck, I guess?
At least Mack has enjoyed a really solid individual season at age 32, so there's that.
