It may have caused some fan's blood pressures to rise, but the Los Angeles Chargers finally got their first win of the new season. They narrowly avoided falling to 0-3 on the season with a last-minute win over the Minnesota Vikings.

The Bolts made a play at the end of the game to seal the win, getting an interception off Minnesota quarterback Kirk Cousins. This defensive play came after the Chargers tried to end the game on offense, by going for a 4th and one from deep in their territory.

Luckily for the team, the Chargers defense made the play of the game. It was a big moment for the team, and hopefully, is the start of more winning ways this season.

“I was so happy,” safety Alohi Gilman said, “because I was tired as hell.”

Usually, these big moments late in the game haven’t happened for the Chargers, but this weekend it gave them life. Head coach Brandon Staley spoke about the defense stepping up at the end of the game.

“I felt like our defense could play the way it did down the stretch…” Staley said. “It’s your job as a head coach to make sure your team knows that you have belief in them.”

The defensive unit saved the day for the Chargers and Staley. His decision to be aggressive late in the game failed, and luckily for them, the defense did their part.

They needed a win, and got one, even with the shakiness that surrounded the game. It was a game that they had to have to avoid dropping farther down in the standings.

“We needed a test like this,” Gilman said. “We came together at the end. The only thing on our minds was staying together. Nothing else mattered.”

Per The LA Times

They will have another chance to show that they have learned from this game when they welcome in the Las Vegas Raiders this weekend. It will be a good divisional test for the Bolts and could go a long way in determining their fate for the rest of the season.
