Chargers News: LA Insider Views Former Brandon Staley Corner as Potential Target
The Los Angeles Chargers did their due diligence this offseason as they bolstered their roster through the draft and free agency. LA got stronger in certain positions of need and is set to showcase its improvements once the season arrives.
However, LA could still use some work in some spots of their team, and plenty of free agents could help them. LA insider from Chargers Wire Gavinio Borquez listed six free agents LA could target and put LA Rams 2022 corner Troy Hill as a viable option for the Bolts.
Like the safety position, the cornerback room can benefit from additional depth. J.C. Jackson is still working his way back from a torn patellar tendon. Asante Samuel Jr. was great in coverage but struggled in run defense.
Hill had a career year playing for Staley in 2020. He tied for second on the team with three interceptions and scored three of their defensive touchdowns that year. Hill also had ten passes defended. In 2021, the Browns signed him to a huge deal. But they traded him back to the Rams after just one season.
Furthermore, Hill provides the versatility to play outside cornerback or in the slot.

The LA corners do remain suspect. J.C. Jackson says he'll be back on time and ready to return to his old self, but will he really? Hill could be a solid piece for the Chargers and has experience being coached under Brandon Staley in the 2020 season when Staley was the Rams' defensive coordinator.
Last season, Hill only played 12 games as he dealt with a groin but still managed to record 50 solo tackles, one interception, 59 targets, and 41 receptions allowed. Pro Football Focus handed him a 65.4 grade in 2022.
Hill is 31 years old and will be entering his 8th season in the league. He still has some juice left in the tank, and we'll see if the Bolts give him a shot.
