Chargers News: LA Loses Out on Top Free Agent Running Back
The Chargers and All-Pro running back Ezekiel Elliott talk is over, Charger fans!
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Elliott will sign with the New England Patriots.
Elliott's deal is a one-year deal worth up to $6 million. Rapoport reported that he visited with the team earlier in camp, and the talks seemed to be a success.
The 28-year-old will likely serve as a backup to Rhamondre Stevenson, who had a stellar 2022 campaign.
Elliott is coming off one of the worst seasons of his career, as he averaged a career-low 3.8 rushing yards per attempt, a career-low in attempts with 231, and a career-low in rushing yards with 876.
He still managed to rack up 12 touchdowns, but those mostly came as a red zone threat, compared to other seasons where he was the workhorse running back.
Zeke won't need to worry about that with the Patriots behind Stevenson and a solid offensive line.
He finally found a home, and the talks to LA about potentially signing him over. We wish him luck with his new team.
