When the Los Angeles Chargers made wide receiver Quentin Johnston from TCU their first round pick in this past draft, big things were expected from the former Horned Frog.

Things are going according to plan for the wideout, who's gamebreaking speed and ability as a deep threat made him an attractive option for LA at No. 21.

He's impressing the Chargers coaching staff and some veterans, notably Los Angeles' star safety Derwin James, who's had to go up against the rookie in training camp.

The three-time Pro Bowler had this to say about Johnston, per ESPN's Lindsey Thiry.

"He's that guy," James said. "Him being able to get open, him being able to have the confidence to be able to go through his drills and be able to -- every catch, he's finishing his runs." (via ESPN's Lindsey Thiry)

Getting that stamp of approval from a true NFL star this early into his time with the league is welcome news for both Johnston and the Chargers, who drafted the pass catcher with hopes of him becoming a true deep threat receiver, especially with the uncertainty that has been surrounding Keenan Allen over the past few seasons.

If Johnston can live up to what has been hoped of him, he'll definitely be a quality weapon for quarterback Justin Herbert in what has already been an explosive Chargers offensive attack.

Los Angeles scored 23 points per game last season, ranking as one of the top units in the league last year.

For his part, Johnston put a cap on his college career by turning himself into one of the best receivers at that level, catching 60 balls for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns to help lead TCU on a surprising run to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game.

And a few months later, it looks like he's on a track to potentially repeat that in the league.
