Chargers News: LA's Undrafted Corner Viewed as Hidden Gem
Your Los Angeles Chargers had themselves one hell of a draft. They checked a ton of their boxes, including the need for a wide receiver, and he is sure to make an immediate impact in his rookie year in Quentin Johnston.
LA also picked up some key players along the way, and we can't wait to see how they look in training camp. However, LA wasn't done with adding players after the draft. The Chargers picked up 18 undrafted players, and one of them could have a shot to make the team and even make an impact for years to come.
One of the 18 players has to hit, right? We don't know for sure, but NFL columnist Will Noltie believes that player could be Indiana's cornerback Tiawan Mullen. Noltie called Mullen the 'hidden gem' for the Bolts in 2023.
Trying to guess who that is going to be on a year-to-year basis is a bit of a crapshoot, but there are indicators we can use to make an educated prediction. For the Los Angeles Chargers, out of their 2023 class of undrafted free agents, the hidden gem among the bunch looks to be cornerback Tiawan Mullen.

Noltie went on to say that he thinks he could slide into the slot/nickel position if worse comes to worst for the Bolts.
But he will likely make it a competition between him and Ja’Sir Taylor for the slot position – which, if the Chargers see the promise in him, could actually explain why they have not brought back Bryce Callahan if they have two young and promising competitors for slot/nickel positions. Basically, Mullen could fill a role on the inside/middle and succeed there, and that includes making an impact on the run game – despite his size, he’s tougher than he looks.
The coaching staff and fans will get a better look at Mullen come training camp. We'll see if he's up for the challenge and exceeds the little to no expectations he has on his plate.
