The 2023 NFL draft will the focal point of your Los Angeles Chargers' priorities following the conclusion of free agency. They have multiple picks this year and most notably will go number 21 in the first round.

LA could go about this draft in a number ways. They could opt to select a running back if the Austin Ekeler trade goes through, continue to add to their strong defensive line, or even bring in more receivers. RB Bijan Robinson coming out of Texas has been a name heavily linked to the Chargers these past few weeks.

However, the most recent NFL mock draft that came out Friday morning predicts that the Chargers will bet on a tight end from Notre Dame by the name of Michael Mayer.

Mayer has widely been regarded as one of the best tight ends to ever suit up in his university's history. The 6'4 athlete made his presence felt since his freshman season and earned the nickname "Baby Gronk" due to his tremendous speed and strength for his position, drawing heavy comparisons to legend Rob Gronkowski.

In his final season with Notre Dame, Mayer recorded 809 yards with 67 catches and nine touchdowns. He was named multiple times as a First-Team All-American and left his mark on the storied football school.

It is no secret that Justin Herbert is the key to leading the Chargers to their first Super Bowl title in franchise history. For that reason, LA's front office has been steadily improving their offense over the past few seasons in order to give him more options and allow him to rest every now and then.

By drafting Mayer, they would be adding one of the most promising TE prospects in recent history. Despite being young, Mayer plays beyond his age and it could very well be a match made in heaven.
