Chargers News: Lions' Biggest Touchdown Against LA Came With Incorrect Lineup On Field
In their brutal Week 10 loss to the Detroit Lions, one of the signature plays the Chargers let up was a 75-yard touchdown run by Lions RB David Montgomery.
Per Derick Hutchinson of clickondetroit.com, here's what Lions' WR Amon-Ra St. Brown had to say about the run:
“On that run that David had, that 75-yard touchdown, we were in the wrong personnel,” Amon-Ra St. Brown said after the game. “It was supposed to be 12, and we were in 11, so we called the play, and I was, like, ‘I don’t know what I’m doing on this play. I’m not supposed to be in.’”
This is a fairly hilarious remark by St. Brown, who had an excellent game in his own regard, finishing with 8 catches for 156 yards and a touchdown, near his hometown of Anaheim Hills, CA.
Drowned in the comedic part of this quote, however, is the absurdity of the Chargers letting Montgomery run 3/4ths of the length of the field out of the wrong personnel.
St. Brown specifically mentions that he "didn't know" what he was doing on the play, meaning the Chargers should've been at a significant advantage.
On the play, Amon-Ra wouldn't have been blocking when/where the extra tight end, who was supposed to be out there instead of him, would've been. In spite of the advantage, the Chargers let Montgomery, who is not an explosive running back by any stretch, a touchdown on the Lions' first play from scrimmage on the drive.
Not sure where Brandon Staley's defense went wrong here, but this has to be something they take a look at heavily this week (or at least we'd hope).
