The time is almost here folks where the 21st pick in the NFL Draft will roll around and the Los Angeles Chargers will make their first of several picks in 2023.

However, this year is not like previous ones. Ever since Justin Herbert was drafted and took over a quarterback position that was overdue for a young upgrade, the Bolts were always viewed as an up and coming squad that didn't have a ton of expectations. The Chiefs were always viewed as the favorite in their division for some time and the Raiders were looked at with more responsibilities due to Derek Carr's window closing.

But that all changed last season with their wild card game collapse. The pressure is on to prove that they can be fight with the best of teams and that Justin Herbert is worth the massive extension he's going to sign soon. LA's main goal is to maximize the number of passing options around him and Will Noltie of "Last Word on Sports" believes this should be at the top of their priorities once the draft comes around.

"This ought to be addressed in the first or second round, especially given that this is a bit of a thin receiver class. Possible candidates include

Jordan Addison

and Zay Flowers – both undersized but fast. If Quentin Johnson falls to the Chargers at 21, he would also be a great pick for the future, given his all-around abilities.

Jalin Hyatt

is another candidate that is fast and less undersized – he may be more of a one-trick pony, but he would fill the Chargers’ need at deep threat nicely."

Also, the defense is a very clear area that LA must improve in. I'm not saying that they need to go out and spend over $50 million on someone like in past years but they should keep their eyes open for a solid lineman in the late rounds.

Noltie pinpoints Calijah Kancey as a possible option.

"The defensive line was improved in 2022 but was still not quite where the team wants it to be. Part of that was due to injuries, but it’s quite possible the Chargers could want an upgrade on that front. The Chargers are starting to get seen as a candidate to take

Calijah Kancey

."

Finally, he makes it clear that the Bolts have certain weaknesses at their running back and tight end spots. The running back position is up in the air due to the Austin Ekeler situation.

"There is no one currently on the roster that could step into a starting role – Isaiah Spiller looks like a bust, and Joshua Kelley is a solid third-down back but that’s about it. Even if Ekeler doesn’t get traded this year, they still need somebody to take over in the future."
