The Los Angeles Chargers continue to be linked to numerous running back prospects ahead of the 2023 NFL draft as their Austin Ekeler situation continues to remain up in the air. It is clear that even if he remains on the squad for this coming season, the same drama could follow when free agency hits again and the front office should prepare since now.

Bijan Robinson is the clear favorite for them in the first round but just in case he gets taken before they select at number 21, they could look at some guys that are slated to fall to the later rounds. It's already been reported by Tom Telesco himself that LA is not opposed to trading down if they don't like their first-round options.

Luckily for them, there is an RB out of UCLA that made First Team All-Pac-12 in 2022 by the name of Zach Charbonnet who is being linked to LA. Last Word on Sports' David Latham talked about his potential fit.

"Austin Ekeler wants a new contract, and even if he returns to the Los Angeles Chargers, it’s safe to say that he probably won’t be back in 2024. In the short-term, Charbonnet and Ekeler could combine to form one of the best running back duos in football, as their styles complement each other perfectly. After a year of adjusting to life in the NFL, Zach Charbonnet could take over as the primary starter in 2024 and play a key role in what should be one of the most dangerous teams in football."

The Chargers are looking like they'll have a lot of good options heading into this draft and it will be up to their scouting department to come away with some steals.
