Chargers News: NFL Expert Breaks Down Best Aspects About Quentin Johnston's Game
Quentin Johnston has been one of the players that many NFL fans have been coming around to following the conclusion of the 2023 NFL Draft. Whether that be because of his immediate retirement promise to his mother, his strong social media presence on Chargers Twitter, or the realization that he is indeed the speedy WR LA fans were hoping for, he's set for a huge rookie season.
We are talking about a guy that improved tremendously in each of his college seasons and most notably saw a 400-yard and 27-reception improvement in his third and final season at TCU. A lot of it had to do with the fact that Johnston was finally healthy and able to showcase to NFL scouts that he could hang at the professional level.
Nothing ever goes perfect during an NFL season and the Chargers are no exception to this matter. They've had to deal with injuries before and with Keenan Allen and Mike Williams already missing games in the past couple of season, Johnston's presence will be that much more important.
On top of that, Austin Ekeler has had a dramatic offseason filled with uncertainty revolving around his LA future. The chemistry will not be great should he return to the squad this coming season and who knows if he'll be the same pass target he was in 2022.
So yes, Johnston is just a rookie but he could very well end up having a much bigger role than most fans expect and thrive in it.
LA Football Network's Deb Whitcas detailed everything she loves about Johnston's fit with the Bolts and hit some excellent points as to how he'll shine in powder blue.
"At 6'3 and 208 pounds, he has that classic wide receiver build," said Whitcas. "And he has speed. He's an effective route runner and can start and stop quickly which will help him gain separation on the outside and break tackles after the catch."

It won't be long until the same Chargers fans that were dead quiet when Johnston got drafted will be cheering his name.
