Chargers News: NFL Insider Argues LA's Case to Draft Edge Rusher in Round 1
The Los Angeles Chargers are certainly heading in the 2023 season with their eyes set on bringing some youth to their offense. If no other roster changes are made, LA will enter the new year with their top three offensive options being Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler.
Justin Herbert has played with those guys for his entire career and even if Ekeler leaves next season, he will be playing with a chip on his shoulder in 2023. Therefore, even if LA doesn't land the highly-coveted Bijan Robinson or Zay Flowers in he first round, their offense will not suffer because of it.
Then you look at potentially taking an edge rusher in the first round and it starts to make sense. The Bolts are making it obvious that they want to rival the best squads in the NFL when it comes to scoring but they need their defense to be solid as well in order to seriously contend. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah broke down the reasoning behind an edge rusher going to LA in round one and mainly pointed out they need insurance in case Khalil Mack or Joey Bosa gets hurts again.
"You just want to see them stay healthy and be on the field together to see what that looks like for a long stretch. It's been a huge loss when Joey hasn't been out there," said Jeremiah. "Still kind of wondering how it all looks like to be honest, so hopefully this year we get a chance to see it."

"I think it's a good group, I think you'll have highly graded players at that point in time," Jeremiah said. "I would not say it's out of the realm of possibility at all. I think there's some guys worthy of it that they're going to be staring at that I'd feel great about."

It's going to be an important last few days before the draft for the Bolts.
