Injuries have been a bitter pill for the Los Angeles Chargers to swallow, and they had their fair share of setbacks in the previous season. Despite clinching a playoff spot, these injuries took a toll on the team's overall performance. Among the casualties were two-star defenders J.C. Jackson and Joey Bosa, along with standout offensive lineman Rashawn Slater. Together, they missed a combined 38 games, and their absence was acutely felt.

ESPN NFL writer Mike Clay recognized the pivotal role these three players play for the Chargers and listed them as the X-Factors for the team.

New year, same question: Will a loaded Chargers team finally stay healthy? Three of the league's best players at their respective positions -- linebacker Bosa (

In Clay's assessment of NFL teams, he ranked them eighth out of ten, underscoring their importance to the Chargers' success.

Bosa's presence on the field is transformative, as he ranks among the league's best defensive ends when he's in top form. His dynamic playstyle elevates the entire defense, much like J.C. Jackson's impact.

While Jackson faced some challenges before his injury, there's a strong belief that he can bounce back and prove that his early 2022 struggles were an anomaly. The real J.C. Jackson, as witnessed in 2021, is poised to make a resounding comeback.

As for Slater, he wasted no time establishing himself as one of the league's premier left tackles. Despite being limited to just three games in 2022 due to injury, he's fueled by a hunger for redemption and aims to build on his previous success in 2023.

The Chargers are well aware that the availability and performance of these three players will be instrumental in taking their game to the next level.

If they can stay healthy and impactful, there's no doubt they will lead the team towards greater success.
