Chargers News: Potential Bolts Target Saquon Barkley Will Not Receive Franchise Tag
The 2024 offseason will be an eventful one for your Los Angeles Chargers. With the draft, free agency, and some tough decisions the Bolts' front office could make, it'll be an offseason that could change the trajectory of the 2024 season.
The 2024 offseason will be huge for the Bolts, and it just got juicer as one of their potential targets just hit the free agency market.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, the New York Giants will not franchise tag their Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley and will enter free agency.
Barkley will hit the open market for the first time in his career, and looks likely to be a hot commodity. Although the 27-year-old has suffered through injuries throughout his career, there's no denying his talent.
In his sixth NFL season, Barkley had a productive season. The former 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year rushed for 962 yards and six touchdowns while also catching 41 balls for 280 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games. His injury history is a bit daunting, but he's stayed relatively for the past two seasons.
That will always be the concern with the two-time Pro Bowler; however, there is some traction between the Bolts and Barkley. There's no denying that head coach Jim Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Greg Roman want to run the ball and dominate the trenches. What better addition than a physical runner who can explode for big runs any chance he gets?
There's a real chance Barkley could don the powder blue. Sportsline.com says the Chargers have the second-best odds to land the former Nittany Lion with +300 odds.
