Remember Quentin Johnston's draft night moment?

The former TCU wide receiver sat at his draft party with his loved ones and waited for the call he'd worked for his whole life to answer.

That call came from Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco, who told the 21-year-old from Temple, Texas that he'd made in to the pinnacle.

Drafted by Los Angeles with the 21st overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, Johnston celebrated and then made a proclamation to his mother, Sherry.

“I just want to give a big shout-out to my mom. She’s going to be putting her two weeks’ notice in today. She can retire. I don’t want you working another day.”

Now, less than two months after her son officially became a member of the exclusive NFL fraternity, his mother's putting in another day at work.

Her last one.

"Thursday is Sherry’s final day at the VA Hospital in Temple, Texas, where she has worked as a secretary for 24 years after serving in the U.S. Army. She will now join Carl in retirement." (via ESPN's Lindsey Thiry)

Sherry will soon be able to sit back with her husband Carl and enjoy her son Quentin's journey in the NFL.

As she told ESPN's Lindsey Thiry, she was shocked by her son's promise.

“When he said that to me, I couldn’t believe it,” Sherry said, describing Quentin’s draft-night speech. “It was mind-blowing.”

Her son figures to make an immediate impact for an already explosive Chargers offense, as he joins Los Angeles having established himself as a deep threat for TCU during their surprising run to the College Football Playoff.

He exploded onto the scene in 2023, hauling in 60 receptions for 1,069 yards -- good for just shy of 18 yards per catch -- and six touchdowns, making his statement that he was one of the best receivers in college football.

Now Sherry will get ready to watch her son step foot on an NFL field as a newly-minted pro, free from any work obligations.

Her only job now?

To relax and watch her son make his mark in the league as a proud retired mom.
