Chargers News: Rival Division Owner Takes Shot at Bolts While Discussing TNF Flex Possibility
The NFL schedule was released a couple of weeks ago, and all 32 NFL teams will know who they'll play and when they'll play them. Your Los Angeles Chargers are tied with a handful of teams who have a season-high six primetime games. Primetime games hold a ton of weight, and it goes to show that the league expects a ton out of you this upcoming season.
One of those primetime games will be held against their division rivals Las Vegas Raiders, on the road on Thursday night on December 14th in Week 15. That game will surely be a great one, and it could have a significant effect on standings and playoff seeding. However, according to the new rule passed on Monday, the NFL could always flex the game out for another one.
The NFL passed a rule that will have the capacity to flex a limited number of late-season Thursday Night Football games that are aired on the Amazon Prime streaming platform. The resolution was passed and approved by 24 owners; however, the owner of the Raiders, Mark Davis, is 100% against the flex. Davis expressed his frustration to USA Today columnist Jarrett Bell and took a shot at his longtime rivals in the process.
“If you have a Raiders-Chargers game in Las Vegas scheduled for a Thursday,” Davis said, “and all of the fans driving from Los Angeles – the Raiders fans and all three Chargers fans – buy their tickets and book their hotels, how in the hell do you schedule it and now say, ‘Sorry, it’s now on Sunday?’ How in the hell do you do that?”
Ouch! As you can see, the hatred from both sides goes up to the front offices. The Chargers aren't known for their fan base, and the move from San Diego to Los Angeles has been a rough transition in terms of breeding fans. Large fan base or not, all that means squat when you step in between those lines. The Bolts have a great team and will be ready to show that all season long. The Raiders have failed to win a playoff game since the 2003 AFC championship game, so they should worry about accomplishing that than trashing the Chargers fan base.
The games between the two franchises are always entertaining, and this season will be no different.
