The Chargers picked up Quentin Johnston in the first round of April's NFL Draft, and I don't think anybody was surprised by the pick at all.

The Bolts need to get younger at wide receiver. They can't keep relying on Keenan Allen and Mike Williams, especially with their injury history.

If training camp has shown us anything, it's that Quentin Johnston might be precisely what the doctor ordered for the Chargers.

Every day, there seems to be a new highlight reel of the former TCU Horned Frog making an absolutely insane catch or putting a corner on skates, but one aspect of his game that he could get better at is high-pointing the ball.

He has a really great mentor in Mike Williams, who has practically made his living on jump balls in the end zone, so if Williams could teach him a thing or two, the Chargers may have found a gem.

His style of play is perfect for Justin Herbert, and as David Latham said in an article:

"On paper, the wide receiver trio of Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Quentin Johnston has the potential to be one of the best in the league. If early training camp reports are to be believed, that theory could become reality based on Johnston’s impressive play."

It's true. Theoretically, a trio of Williams, Allen, and Johnston would rank among the best in the league, granted we haven't seen Johnston at game speed yet. We don't know what Johnston looks like in a game yet, or how Kellen Moore could use him in the offense.

He's not the size of a true slot receiver. So the idea of putting him there seems a little foreign to me, but for three wide receiver sets, he'd be perfect to run go routes and get up over defenders.

Just think about it, Justin Herbert could just chuck it up to each side, and if Johnston can keep up what we've seen in camp, I'd trust the Chargers receivers on 50/50 balls all season.

What do you think? Will Williams live up to the hype?
