Chargers News: Rookie Quentin Johnston's Confidence Rockets After Chicago Win

Big game from the rookie last night!
In this story:

When the Los Angeles Chargers took wide receiver Quentin Johnston in the first round of this year's NFL Draft, it was generally seen as a great move for the franchise. Johnston was spectacular during his time at TCU, and he was going to bring a new element to the Bolts' offense.

But through the first part of his NFL career, Johnston has been relatively quiet. But on Sunday night against the Chicago Bears, he had a coming-out party of sorts. He had five catches for 50 yards on the day, marking the best game of his career. The rookie revealed his take on the game to Eric Smith of Chargers.com.

"Just a confidence booster," Johnston said. "But at the end of the day, I don't feel like I did anything different other than just staying consistent at practice and continuing to work. Just build that trust and relationship with the quarterback."

Johnston thrives in space, and the Bolts should look to get him the ball there to maximize his potential. He is slowly building the chemistry needed with quarterback Justin Herbert, and it has been great to see them working more together.

"He's a stellar athlete," Herbert said. "He's one of those guys that whenever you get the ball to him, something special is going to happen."

If Johnston is able to keep up this level of production, the Chargers will feel very good about his value to the team. It has taken him a little bit to get comfortable, but it seems he may have found his footing.

Johnston later added: "Not getting too high on this little stepping stone. Continue to stack days and reflect on what I did, but also be critical on myself for what I didn't do."

Hopefully, this game is a sign of things to come for Johnston, and he can continue to build up his game. He will be a big key down the stretch of the season for the Bolts, especially with Mike Williams out for the year.
