Former Los Angeles Chargers running backs coach Derrick Foster looks likely to have a new gig quite soon.

Sources inform Matt Zenitz of 247Sports that the New Orleans Saints will be adding Foster to work in the same capacity as he did for Brandon Staley and, last year, under Los Angeles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. He'll be reporting directly to new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak with the Saints.

Prior to his three-year Bolts stint, Foster worked for the Iowa Hawkeyes. He also logged a multi-season stint with Northwestern State.

Chargers running back Austin Ekeler, who by the way could be a free agent this offseason should he so choose, logged 44 touchdowns to lead the franchise across Foster's three seasons with the club. Ekeler's touchdown output actually topped the NFL in 2021 and '22. Overall, LA never rose above being the 22nd-ranked NFL program in rushing attempts during Foster's tenure.

On new LA head coach Jim Harbaugh's staff, Andy Bischoff will supplant Foster, in a role with a slightly different moniker. Bischoff will serve as the Chargers' run game coordinator and tight ends coach.

Los Angeles will also just generally need to bolster its depth at the running back position, which hopefully new general manager Joe Hortiz will address via this year's draft, as well as free agency.
