Chargers News: Two of LA's Top Players Land in All-Underpaid Team
The Los Angeles Chargers have been very careful financially in 2023 as they did not want to make similar mistakes that they did in the past and rather looked to prepare themselves for a successful future. We are currently in the middle of a dead period and it's getting quite lonely without seeing any of our Bolts at the training facility.
However, that is because they are getting their rest in before turning the heat all the way back up when training camp kicks off in a couple of weeks. This is where we will be able to see who has truly been putting in work and who will land some big roles going into the 2023 season.
And experts have been taking a look at the Bolts' roster as a whole and assessing how effective their contracts will be down the line. Justin Herbert's massive extension is still in the works so there is not much worry on that end and Bleacher Report's Brad Gagnon decided to highlight two names who probably should be making more buck for their bang in Herbert of course and Austin Ekeler.
"Ekeler has led the league in touchdowns each of the last two years, scoring a ridiculous 38 times in 2021 and 2022 combined. He's also gone over 1,500 scrimmage yards in both seasons, but a dozen other backs make more scratch right now."
"This should change relatively soon because Herbert and the team have been
engaged in contract negotiations
, but for now the bona fide franchise quarterback makes less than both Jacoby Brissett and Taylor Heinicke with a $6.6 million average. He'll bring in $8.5 million in 2023 and he's now guaranteed $29.5 million on his fifth-year option in 2024, but that's still not nearly enough in comparison to peers with similar accomplishments. He was ninth in MVP voting last year, he was a Pro Bowler the year before that, and he was Offensive Rookie of the Year in the prior season."

We know Herbert will get his money but Ekeler is the one who's future is definitely up in the air after this coming season.
