Chargers News: Why Austin Ekeler Should Consider Changing Positions

He may get what he wants through this!

One of the biggest storylines in the Los Angeles Chargers' 2023 offseason was undoubtedly: What will happen with Austin Ekeler? His unhappiness with the franchise had been brewing for some time and seeing the direction in which the RB market was trending, his trade request was bound to come.

However, it probably were Ekeler's unrealistic expectations for his next extension that stopped him from actually getting any real teams interested and despite him being one of the best players at his position, he found himself in the middle of a failed movement and ended up agreeing to return to the Chargers this year under a slightly-revised contract.

The 27-year-old star made it clear that he was taking a stand for something bigger than himself when he first requested a trade and revealed that he wanted to ensure that no other RB would get lowballed again if they deserved a certain amount of money.

However, Fox Sports' Eric Williams believes that he should potentially look to switch positions and maybe that will help him land the money that he is looking for.

Ekeler might be wise to seek a position change from running back to slot receiver, with the franchise tag for receivers increasing from $16 million to nearly $20 million over the past five years. I understand the league has that tool on their side to utilize that in the way and when they want to," Ekeler told reporters about the franchise tag. "But it's just really hurt our market. … Sure, you say we have a shorter life. People say we get hurt. Sure, you can look at numbers, but everyone gets hurt in the NFL."

Let's see if he decides to seriously consider it!
