Chargers Officially Confirm Wave Of Week 16 Player Signings, Cuts

JoJo Wooden is making moves.

Your Los Angeles Chargers confirmed today, in a press release, that they've inked ex-New England Patriots practice squad quarterback Will Grier and former practice squad center Cameron Tom to their active 53-man roster.

Grier will now serve as LA's backup signal caller, behind starter Ethan Stick, with Pro Bowler Justin Herbert done for the year.

The 6'3", 220-pound journeyman Grier, 28, was drafted with the 100th pick in 2019 out of West Virginia, and has logged time with the Carolina Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, and New England Patriots prior to this Chargers stop. He also logged a little time this season with the Cincinnati Bengals' practice squad, but was never promoted to the team's standard roster.

Tom is projected to immediately start, mostly as an injury necessity. LA has demoted center/guard Will Clapp to its Injury Reserve list. Nominal starter Corey Linsley has missed most of the year with a heart condition. A 6'4", 300-pound behemoth, Tom went undrafted out of Southern Miss in 2017. He's played for the New Orleans Saints and Miami Dolphins, but has been relegated to the practice squad of the Philadelphia Eagles for the past two seasons.

Thanks to Tom's promotion, LA has added a new piece to its practice squad: free agent center Brent Laing.
