Chargers OLB Coach Calls Khalil Mack 'Easiest Star He's Ever Coached'
There is a very fine line between factoring in one's own opinions and having a big ego when you're a star in the NFL. And there will be no room all for ego's in the 2023 season for the Los Angeles Chargers.
The smartest thing LA could have done this offseason was sit down with Austin Ekeler before official offseason workouts start taking place and finally come to an agreement on his contract. Even though it's not a long-term one yet, he has incentives and will buy in this year.
Then you have Justin Herbert who has been focusing on rehabbing his shoulder far more than his own upcoming extension. A certain culture is being built within the Bolts' organization as they look to bounce back from their disappointments and it looks like it's all starting with Khalil Mack.
Mack holds all of the skills, experience, and leadership necessary to help lead this group to the promised land and he's already having a positive impact on some new faces during voluntary OTA's.
He will be entering his second season with the Chargers after his first one that saw him suit up in 17 games while recording 50 tackles along with eight sacks. Head coach Brandon Staley recently had some Hughe praise for Mack, referring to him as the star that he has had the least trouble coaching.
"Well, Khalil is the easiest superstar I've ever coached," said Staley. "First of all, he's a tremendous man but you can coach him hard, he's a hard worker. He didn't have the year that he probably thought he was going to have last year and we spoke about this at the end of the season. He still had 8.5 sacks and played really well with Joey being out and all the attention is on him. And he had no offseason lifting, running, coming off the foot [injury]. I think the fans will be really excited with what they see out of 52 this year."
