Chargers Reportedly Offered Keenan Allen Multiple Contracts Which He Refused
The Los Angeles Chargers general manager, Joe Hortiz, told reporters the front office offered former Chargers wide receiver and Pro Bowler Keenan Allen multiple contract options before trading him away to the Chicago Bears last week.
Daniel Popper of The Athletic shared the news via X.
One of the options was an extension; however, the two sides couldn't reach an agreement. Ulitmlaety, the long-time Charger, will wear some new colors in 2024.
The Chargers only got back a 2024 fourth-round pick.
In his Bears introductory press conference, Allen said that the Chargers brass asked him to take a pay cut before the trade occurred. Two things can be true at the same time, but someone may not be telling the truth.
That's neither here nor there. What is done is done, and the two sides will look for a fresh, new start.
The Chargers hold the number five pick, and whether they stay put or trade down, the team will likely draft an Allen replacement.
The 31-year-old wanted to finish his career with the Bolts, but as he also started in his introductory press conference, 'things happen.'
Nonetheless, we wish Allen the best.
