Chargers Rumors: Key Michigan Assistant Coach Reportedly Joining Jim Harbaugh in Los Angeles
Your Los Angeles Chargers snagged Jim Harbaugh from his alma mater, Michigan, and he may bring some reinforcements with him.
According to WTKA Michigan insider Sam Webb, Michigan defensive coordinator Jesse Minter reportedly informed the players he would follow Harbaugh to Los Angeles.
If this turns out to be accurate, it's uncertain what type of role he would play with the team. However, the best guess would be as defensive coordinator. The only problem with that is the Chargers already have a defensive coordinator, Derrick Ansley. Ansley coached the defense in 2023, his first as DC for the Bolts.
Prior to 2023, he was the defensive backs coach for the Bolts from 2021-2022.
If Minter happens to take over for Ansley, Minter would be an acceptable replacement. Minter led the Michigan defense to new heights; they were number one in opponent points per game (10.4), number one in opponent yards per game (247.1), number nine in opponent pass completion percentage (55.3%), and number two in opponent pass yards per game (157).
Minter had a sought defense to lead, and if he comes to LA to become the new defensive coordinator, then you could expect the same from the Bolts in 2024. Things could change from this report, and we'll keep a close eye on what developments from this.
If Minter follows Harbaugh, a serious conversation about Minters and Ansley's role would be discussed. Unless, of course, it's already decided behind closed doors.
