Chargers Rumors: NFL Columnist Suggests LA Should Consider Trading Promising Young Receiver
Drafting rookie Quentin Johnston in the first round of this year's draft and getting back veterans from their injuries last season, the Bolts may have an odd man out in their receiver room despite a productive 2022 year.
One analyst suggests that Joshua Palmer's success last season may not be enough to hold onto him as Los Angeles' receiver room gets more crowded in 2023.
Statistically, Joshua Palmer enjoyed a breakout campaign last season. He hauled in
72 catches for 769 yards and three touchdowns
, but that could be a bit of fool's gold. The 23-year-old put up those numbers while
ranking second
behind Austin Ekeler for the most targets on the Los Angeles Chargers with 107. The primary reason for that was because the team's top two wide receivers—Keenan Allen and Mike Williams—missed 11 games between them. Los Angeles would be wise to strike while the iron is hot and see what it can get for the Tennessee product. Even though he
won't be a free agent
for two more seasons, his trade value is likely higher now than it will be in the offseason.

Palmer has been a productive third option since the team drafted him in the third round of the 2021 draft.
Though the former Volunteer has been a nice complementary piece, it's evident that Johnston's high draft pedigree meant that an expansive role is meant for the younger TCU product.
Considering the Chargers ' injury woes to their receiving corps last season, having this many mouths to feed on such a talented offense is never a bad thing.
However, Palmer's place in the offense has undoubtedly been compromised by health from the veterans and other younger options that could replace him.
It's never easy to part ways with any player, but this might be a decision to keep an eye on for the Bolts' front office.
