Chargers News: Chicago May Demote Longtime Starter For LA Game

The Bears may make a change in the trenches.

Your 2-4 Los Angeles Chargers and the 2-5 Chicago Bears are gearing up to face off on Sunday. A big change may be coming for the Bears in the trenches.

"The PFF graders blamed Whitehair for allowing 12 pressures, four quarterback hits and two sacks. One of Whitehair’s strengths is the versatility to move between center and guard. He’s played more guard this season, with PFF grading him 73rd among 80 qualifying guards. He moved back to center when Jenkins came off injured reserve in Week 5, replacing Patrick, who PFF ranks 36th among 39 qualifying centers."

Cody Whitehair was drafted in the second round of the 2016 NFL Draft and since then, he has started every game he has played in.

Mostly playing center Whitehair has also moved around to left guard, but his versatility is less valuable as he is having a career worst year so far.

Set to face the Chargers who have pass rushers like Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack pass protection is at the forefront of the Chicago Bears checklist.

Whitehair currently has a PFF grade of 43.1 while also allowing 13 pressures and 2 sacks.

Whitehair has played mostly left guard this year but has gotten snaps at center if the matchup calls for it, but his decline in production may be something the Chargers can exploit if he is in the starting lineup.

Since 2020, Whitehair's PFF grade has steadily been declining with the biggest jump so far being this year. He recorded a 65.9 grade for the 2022 season.

Look for the Chargers to possibly abuse the struggling interior lineman and get to the rookie Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent.
