Expert Sees Justin Herbert & New Chargers WR as Match Made in Heaven
The Los Angeles Chargers came away with a top-notch receiver in the first round of the 2023 NFL Draft as they welcomed in Quentin Johnston to be their speedy option moving forward. The hype is real surrounding him after a stellar final season at TCU that saw him headline an elite offensive team en route to a 9-0 record in the Big 12 Conference.
When you factor in that multiple of his college teammates will be competing alongside him once again at the professional level, he is in a great spot to succeed early on. Justin Herbert is going to be the man throwing dots to him all year long and now he has another pass-catching threat beyond just Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.
Herbert is dealing with a couple of factors outside of just on-field play as he is set to receive a massive extension soon along with his recovery from shoulder surgery earlier in the offseason.
ESPN's Dan Orlovsky believes that when Herbert is paid and back on the field, he will love playing with Johnston despite him just being a rookie. He described him as being someone who loves to make big-time throws and he now has someone who will help him complete them.
"They have a quarterback that can make these big, explosive plays," said Orlovsky. "All these plays that RC just showed from Quentin Johnston, what were they? Big plays down the field and I saw a guy that made some tough catches."

In 2022, Johnston was able to have his best collegiate year yet as he brought in 60 receptions and totaled over 1,000 total yards.
Orlovsky also made it very simple to understand the approach Justin Herbert takes with his offensive game.
"Like you say in recess," said Orlovsky. "My guy better than your guy. I'm going to give you the chance to make a catch. I'll give you the opportunity and you go make it."
Johnston is certainly going to have plenty of chances to shine playing alongside this elite QB. He is joining a Chargers squad that is looking prove the world wrong and he will play a key role in that.
