In this story:

You know how the saying goes.... the bigger they are, they harder they fall. Well, the Los Angeles Chargers were not very big at all last season when they sustained one of the biggest drops in NFL history in the wild card round. Realistically, they were not even supposed to be there.

Yes, many people were excited about their roster and offseason additions coming into the year and Justin Herbert with two seasons under his belt was going to be quite the sight to see. But injuries plagued nearly every single one of their important guys as the weeks went on and they still managed to pull something together in the final few games.

Everybody is having their laughs right now and those who actually chose LA to win the AFC last season over the Kansas City Chiefs will not dare to make that same mistake again but just keep an eye on these Bolts. They've crossed nearly every necessary task off of their to-do list recently and now it's time to build even more chemistry. CBS Sports' Jared Dubin is looking like a firm believer in this squad!

"Stop me if you've heard this before, but the Chargers were decimated by injuries last season.

Rashawn Slater

played just three games.

Keenan Allen

and

Mike Williams

were on the field together for only 180 plays. Even

Corey Linsley

missed some time. But the talent remains, and the offensive line should be better with Slater back from injury,

Zion Johnson

in his second season, and

Jamaree Salyer

now an entrenched starter. Throw

Quentin Johnston

into the mix at wideout, and

Justin Herbert

is going to be cooking with some gas in

Kellen Moore's

offense."

And yes, everybody is well-aware of the potential LA holds on the offensive side of the ball. Herbert with some new options and some healthy ones should go a very long way.

But Dubin is impressed with their defensive strides as well.

" L.A.'s defense finally started playing up to its talent level over the second half of last season, but former defensive coordinator Renaldo Hill left for a job with the

Dolphins

, and there are still some question marks in the defensive backfield."

It is definitely personal this season for the Bolts.
