Chargers News: Former Super Bowl Champion Believes Brandon Staley's Hot Seat Lingers Despite Second 2023 Win
It was all smiles when the Bolts captured their first win of the season on the road against the Minnesota Vikings last week. LA almost dropped the ball as, at one point, they led 21-10 late in the third quarter.
On top of that, Brandon Staley's boneheaded move to elect to go for it on 4th down with less than two minutes left in the fourth quarter on their own 24-yard line had everyone confused. Los Angeles ultimately held on for a 28-24 victory.
Some Charger fans could care less as long as they got the win, but others, including pundits, were puzzled by the move. If his defense had failed and surrendered a touchdown, all hell would have broken loose, and his job would've been in serious jeopardy. That wasn't the case, but many believe his job is nowhere near safe and his seat is as hot as possible.
The Chargers barely staved off disaster again today against the Las Vegas Raiders, who went on a 10-0 run in the second half and nearly tied up the game near the two-minute mark. But LA won again instead, 24-17.
One who firmly believes that is former Super Bowl champion and Pro Bowl fullback Michael Robinson. Robinson went in on the LA head coach in NFL Network's 'NFL Total Access.'
"I love you individually, but that was still a stupid move, man. You should have punted in your territory with that amount of time left. His [Brandon Staley] seat is really hot. I mean, honestly, not just for the analytics that he leans on all the time, but he's a defensive guru, and this is the worst defense in the National Football League. They give up 450 yards a game. I thought that was a misprint, that's real, and he's a defensive guru. That can't happen, big dog."

Robinson is spot on. Staley should thank his lucky stars that the defense did their job, got the win, and, more importantly, saved Staley's behind.
The defense must improve; there is no reason why the defense should be this bad until Brandon's nose. It's frustrating to watch, and it's on him to fix the issue. If he can't, his time in LA will come to an end soon.
They will have a chance to redeem themselves and possibly win more comfortably today against the Raiders. We'll see if the Bolts will have their fanbase's heart rate at an all-time high again.
