Is Former Jim Harbaugh OL An Option For Chargers In Free Agency?
Former Michigan Wolverines offensive lineman Jon Runyan is hitting the free agent market this summer -- and his old college coach is at the helm of a big-market NFL franchise.
Could we be in store for a reunion?
Gavino Borquez of Chargers Wire thinks so, at least.
“There is some familiarity as Runyan played for Harbaugh at Michigan from 2015 to 2019. He has experience at both guard spots, and with a new system being implemented, there is no guarantee that Zion Johnson or Jamaree Salyer will be starters next season.”
Protecting Pro Bowl quarterback Justin Herbert needs to be a top priority for this Bolts team. By benefit of manning the single-most important position in the game, it's of the utmost import that he is given plenty of time to employ his rocket arm in the pocket, and not forced to run or scramble too much.
Thus, shoring up the O-line with trusted vets, ideally ones who can be obtained cost effectively given the Bolts' anticipated cap issues (they're expected to be $45.8 million above the NFL's projected line), needs to be an absolute top priority this spring.
To be fair, every position could use a boost. Yes, wide receiver Keenan Allen enjoyed another great Pro Bowl season, but he's 31, and everyone beyond him is a serious question mark. The team's running back position needs work, too. LA's porous defense could use a massive overhaul.
But everything starts with guarding Justin Herbert.
