Chargers News: LA May Have Unique Opportunity Against Chiefs

LA has to win this game.
In this story:

After a tough loss at the hands of the Dallas Cowboys, the Los Angeles Chargers now set their sights on a familiar divisional opponent. They will be traveling to Arrowhead Stadium for a date with the Kansas City Chiefs, and it will be no easy game for them.

These two teams have played each other well in recent years, but the Bolts have continued to come up short most of the time in the games. Protecting quarterback Justin Herbert will be the name of the game for the Bolts.

If he has time to scan the field and make a play, it will heavily benefit things for Los Angeles. But while the Chiefs have gotten to quarterback this season, they do have a low-pressure rate in doing so.

“The Chargers have the Kansas City Chiefs up next Sunday. According to Next Gen Stats, the Chiefs have the lowest percentage of quarterback pressures in the NFL, generating 29.2% of pressures on dropbacks. Still, they are sixth in the league with 17 sacks.”

Per Kris Rhim of ESPN

Kansas City isn’t the best team defensively, but they are much better than people think they are. They will cause some issues for this Chargers team, so the Bolts will need to come in with a strong game plan.

For the Chargers to even have a chance in this matchup, they will need to score points, so the offense will be a big x-factor here. The defense has shown out in recent weeks for the Chargers, but the offense that was supposed to be high-powered has fallen flat.

"I think it's our job as an offense to be able to score more points," Herbert said. "When our defense is playing as well as they are ... we got to capitalize on those turnovers, capitalize on the field position. So it's on us as an offense."

If the Chargers can’t win this game, it'll send them back to two games under .500. This is as close to a must-win for a team as ever, and if more of the same continues, changes could be coming to this franchise sooner than expected.
