NLF Expert Doesn't Believe Chargers Current Roster Solidifies Them a Playoff Spot
The Los Angeles Chargers certainly are being looked at under a much better microscope this season as the NFL world looks to see what they are really made. Are they really the franchise that is poised to run the AFC West once the Kansas City Chiefs fall from top? Or will the blown 27-point lead define them for years to come?
Unfortunately, LA is poised to enter the 2023 season with a number of roadblocks that do not allow us to answer these questions just yet. The elephant in the room is obviously the unknown when it comes to Austin Ekeler. Both the Chargers' executives along with Ekeler himself have been vocal about not wanting to break up their relationship but both are also being stubborn with what they think is right.
Then, there are the underlying problems within a defensive line that has given up far too many runs over the past few seasons. LA does not have the cap space to fully address these needs.
For all of these reasons and more, Max Dean of 'Defiant Takes Football' is not fully sold on the Bolts matching their success last year and breaking into the postseason.
"The Chargers have some good players and even some stars, but the roster isn’t as deep as you would hope, nor as well-rounded at the top. A great draft would go a long way toward infusing at least one new player into their projected starters, and necessary depth for the long season ahead. At least the Chargers can always rely on the comfort of knowing that #10 is behind center, and now they just need to make his job easier."

However, it is going to take much more than Justin Herbert's excellence to make some real noise in 2023. The whole group will have to buy in and prove any doubters wrong.
