Back in 2016 when the Chargers still resided in sunny San Diego, loyal fans may remember one of Philip Rivers' favorite wide receiver targets that signed with the franchise that offseason. The Bolts' front office were able to bring in a premier pass-catcher in Travis Benjamin.

Benjamin was coming off of a season with the Cleveland Browns that saw him record 68 receptions with five touchdowns all on 966 yards. For a Chargers squad desperately looking too strengthen their offense and reach the postseason again, he was an ideal addition.

However, Benjamin is popping up in the headlines once again in headlines alongside the Chargers despite departing from the franchise after the 2019 season. A columnist from TouchdownWire is looking towards his game when breaking down what makes a top-heavy WR prospect in Josh Downs so special.

"Selected in the fourth round of the 2012 draft by the Browns out of Miami, Benjamin was that same type of scooting receiver with the ability to beat defenders on all kinds of routes. At his peak with the Browns and Chargers, Benjamin could do those things both in the slot and outside. Not bad for a 5-foot-10, 175-pound receiver, and Downs could also be that sort of NFL weapon."

It's always super easy to take a look at college film and instantly believe that players look elite against that competition. However, this does seem like a pretty valid comparison considering the athletic abilities and speed both possess.

The Chargers have had experiences with multiple WR's but are looking at some younger options to prepare for the future.
