It could only get better as the season goes on

The Los Angeles Chargers have a few new faces going into 2023, and none could play a more significant role than rookie wide receiver Quentin Johnston. Johnston was taken in the first round by LA with the 21st overall pick, and he is sure to bolster the wide receiver room.

In order to do that, he must build some allure with QB Justin Herbert. Chemistry is just as or even more critical than talent; the Chargers have the talent, but they must gel together as one to get to where they want to go.

Chemistry could go a long way, and that's precisely what Johnston and Herbert are building. Johnston spoke to Chargers insider from the OC Register, Elliott Teaford, and said he feels like they're on the right track.

“I feel like he trusts me, for sure,” Johnston said of Herbert, a four-year veteran who was the NFL’s second-leading passer last season with 4,739 yards. “Obviously, it’s still a work in progress. I’m still fairly new. I, obviously, haven’t been in a full game situation with him, but I feel like it’s up there.”

It will be critical for the whole team to be on the same page, and that's no different with Herbert and his receivers. Herbert wasted no time building that with Mike Williams and Keenan Allen, and since the rookie is up next, more of the same will be needed.

Johnston has already made waves at training camp, and although it hasn't translated to the two preseason games, Herbert has not played in any of those games.

You could throw that out the window come Week 1, and we cannot wait to see how they gel and how the Bolts look overall. There's no doubt that Johnston and Herbert will look like they've been teammates for years as the season progresses.
