Chargers News: Star Raiders Defender Spoke With Jerry Tillery About Justin Herbert Hit
Tempers flared in your Los Angeles Chargers' Week 4 contest against the divisional rival Las Vegas Raiders after former Bolt Jerry Tillery struck Justin Herbert with a late hit out of bounds.
Many of Herbert's teammates came to his defense and star Vegas pass rusher Maxx Crosby described his teammate's lapse in judgment that caused the massive scuffle.
Crosby collected eight tackles and sacked Herbert twice in the contest but failed to pick up the win or headlines for his performance due to Tillery's actions and subsequent ejection.
Tillery spent the first four seasons of his career with LA as a former first-round pick from Notre Dame but failed to earn a second contract with the team.
The defensive tackle signed with the Raiders in 2022 after getting both his fifth-year option declined by the Bolts and eventually waived in November of that year.
Vegas picked up the defensive tackle later that season but he hasn't lived up to his draft pedigree in either location.
Instead, the alleged poor locker room fit in LA rubbed some of his former teammates the wrong way by targeting his former signal caller well after whistles were blown.
LA had the last laugh even after a furious second-half comeback from Vegas fueled by rookie QB Aidan O'Connell in his first career game in place of the injured Jimmy Garoppolo.
Khalil Mack especially took advantage of the Raiders' inexperienced QB after he sacked this year's fourth-round pick a staggering six times.
The win marked a turning point in LA's season yet also brought concerns about coach Brandon Staley's decision-making down the stretch.
Nevertheless, the Chargers are now 2-2 on their bye week and Tillery's late hit could mark another important showing of team chemistry for the rest of the year.
