Chargers News: Vikings To Be Without New Running Back Sunday Against Los Angeles

A lucky break for Los Angeles.

In a lucky break for your 0-2 Los Angeles Chargers, their opposition for this weekend's matchup will be missing a core new offensive asset. On Wednesday, the 0-2 Minnesota Vikings shipped out a conditional 2026 sixth-round draft pick to the Los Angeles Rams for 24-year-old running back Cam Akers and LA's conditional 2026 seventh-round pick.

The 5'10", 217-pound running back was selected with the No. 52 pick in the 2020 draft out of FSU by the Rams, and immediately won a Super Bowl championship during his first pro season in a stroke of luck.

Minnesota head coach Kevin O'Connell spoke with reporters at a team presser today to discuss the acquisition. During the chat, he explained that Akers wouldn't be quite acclimated to the club's system in time for him to suit up with his new franchise this Sunday.

"We did add Cam Akers via trade," O'Connell said. "Excited to add Cam to the roster and throw him in the mix with some of our other running backs. He's a guy I have some personal history with, some of other coaches do as well. I know he's really excited to be here and he'll work towards potentially being a part of what we do next week [against the Carolina Panthers on October 1st] but it's a little too soon to ask him to go this week [against the Chargers], so more than likely he will be down for the game, but he's off to a great start here."
